The Scares That Shaped Us Episode 49: 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' with Neil McRobert

I've been a fan of Talking Scared, Neil McRobert's author interview podcast, for years. To my mind it's the best show of its kind, and Neil is the best interviewer in the game at the moment. So I was thrilled, as both a listener and a (somewhat) peer, when I learned that Neil's debut novella was coming out this year, because it meant an excuse to invite him on my show and pick his brain.

I've already written about that novella, by the way. It's called Good Boy, it's out later this month from Wild Hunt Books, and it's extraordinary. It's a story rooted in both Neil's deep interest in Gothic and weird literature and in his love for his dog Ted, and as a dog lover myself I knew we'd have a lot to talk about on that avenue alone. Then we dig into Wes Craven, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Neil's very intense response to that horror classic.

I can't thank Neil enough for coming on the show, as well as his early support for The Scares That Shaped Us. It meant a lot when I'd barely got going, and it still means a lot now.

Next week, we'll celebrate our 50th episode of the podcast with a visit from C. Robert Cargill, so get ready to talk Black Phone 2 and Stephen King!
